- Gerber Mark II Knife Dating System. Black handle Mark II's started around 1977. Roughly 1000 of the orange handle Mk II 'Dive' knives were made (Serial number 0248xx - 0415xx) from 1972 to 1975. Gerber also made a Mark II Yellow Handle Dive Knife (aprox 1972). In 1968 Gerber introduced 'Armorhide' handles.
- Aug 29, 2006 Hi, I just got a Gerber Mark I on ebay serial # 059027. 25+ years old described as mint. It certianly looks to be mint. And the Gerber flyer that.
There is an 'S' in the serial numbers of the stainless models. CS stands for 'Cutlery Shoppe'. 1989 was the First year of the Cutlery Shoppe knives. Editors note: after a little research, here are my findings on getting rough dates from serial numbers. I have seen (1984) black blade Gerber MK I's with serial numbers from P52xxS to S49xxS. If I have the equipment to do so I will verify basic functionality and describe the item with as much detail as I can. I will clearly state in the auction if the item has been tested and what was tested. If you have a problem with a product new and sealed in the manufacturer packaging please direct any warranty issues to the business who made the product.
